Thornvillechurch – Jesus Teaches Nicodemus, particularly in the Gospel of John, we encounter the story of Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council. His encounter with Jesus offers profound insights into the path to the Kingdom of God. In a powerful conversation, Jesus reveals essential truths about spiritual rebirth, the necessity of the Holy Spirit, and the profound mystery of God’s Kingdom.
Nicodemus approaches Jesus with a statement of belief, acknowledging that Jesus must have come from God due to the miraculous signs and wonders He performed. He is impressed by Jesus’ actions, which give evidence of divine power and authority. However, while Nicodemus recognizes the signs, Jesus takes the opportunity to teach him a deeper, spiritual truth that will reshape his understanding of God’s Kingdom.
In John 3:3, Jesus responds by saying, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless they are born again.” This statement challenges Nicodemus, who, as a Pharisee, is familiar with the Jewish law and traditions but struggles to comprehend what Jesus means by being “born again.”

The concept of being “born again” confuses Nicodemus. How can someone physically be reborn, especially as an adult? He asks, “How can someone be born when they are old?” Jesus, however, clarifies that this rebirth is not a physical one, but a spiritual one.
Jesus explains that to enter the Kingdom of God. A person must be “born of water and the Spirit” (John 3:5). The “water” symbolizes baptism, which represents cleansing and the start of a new life. The “Spirit” refers to the Holy Spirit, who works in the hearts of believers, transforming them into new creations. Jesus teaches that this spiritual rebirth is essential to see the Kingdom of God. Showing that it is not enough to simply follow outward rituals. True transformation must come from within through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus reveals the critical requirement for entering the Kingdom of God: spiritual rebirth. This rebirth is made possible by the Holy Spirit and signifies a new life in Christ. Without this transformation, no one can truly experience or understand the spiritual reality of God’s Kingdom.
Jesus’ words challenge the Pharisees and people of His time to rethink their approach to salvation. It’s not about heritage, religious titles, or human effort. Instead, the Kingdom of God is open to those who are spiritually reborn. Who embrace the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. And who receive the new birth that only God can provide.
